Eye health

Your eye test,
done calmly and thoroughly

We are a registered optical healthcare practice. Before we talk about frames, we make sure you see well and that your eyes are healthy. Every eye test is carried out by a qualified optometrist.

What the eye test includes

  • A conversation about your habits, health and any visual discomfort
  • Distance and near visual acuity
  • Objective and subjective refraction (your prescription)
  • Binocular vision: how your two eyes work together
  • Examination of the outer eye and ocular surface
  • Tonometry: intraocular pressure measurement
  • Retinal photography: a digital image of the back of the eye
  • Personal advice and referral to an ophthalmologist when needed

How often should you have an eye test?

  • Children

A first test at around age 3, then once a year during school years. Many vision problems first show up as difficulties at school.

  • Adults and screens

Every 1 to 2 years. If you spend long hours on a computer or phone, have eye strain and dry eye checked too.

  • Over 40

Once a year. Presbyopia sets in and eye health needs closer monitoring.

  • Drivers

Have a test before renewing your licence and whenever you notice poorer night vision or glare.

Book an appointment if you notice…

  • Headaches when reading or using screens
  • Blurred vision at distance or near
  • Tired, red or dry eyes
  • You move your phone closer or further away to read
  • You see worse when driving at night

The most common vision problems

  • Myopia (short-sightedness)

You see well up close but distant things are blurred: the board, road signs, number plates. It usually appears in childhood or adolescence and increases during the growing years.

How we solve it Glasses or contact lenses. For children, myopia-control lenses that help slow its progression.

  • Hyperopia (long-sightedness)

Focusing up close is hard and, if it is high, so is distance vision. It causes tiredness and headaches when reading. In children it can go unnoticed because the eye compensates by straining.

How we solve it Glasses or contact lenses that relax the eye, especially for reading and studying.

  • Astigmatism

The cornea is not perfectly round, so images look distorted or slightly doubled at any distance. Halos around lights at night are common.

How we solve it Toric lenses, in glasses and in contact lenses too.

  • Presbyopia

From around 40 to 45 the lens of the eye loses flexibility and you need to hold your phone or book further away to read. It is a natural process that happens to all of us.

How we solve it Reading glasses, varifocal lenses or multifocal contact lenses, depending on your daily life.

  • Dry eye

Itching, a gritty feeling, red eyes or even watering. Screens, air conditioning, wind and long hours in contact lenses make it worse.

How we solve it We assess your tear film, recommend artificial tears and habits, and refer you to an ophthalmologist if needed.

  • Digital eye strain

Blurred vision at the end of the day, tired eyes and headaches after long hours on a computer or phone. In front of a screen we blink up to three times less.

How we solve it A prescription tailored to your working distance, occupational lenses and the 20-20-20 rule.

Everyday tips to look after your eyes

  • The 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes of screen time, look at something about 6 metres (20 feet) away for 20 seconds.
  • Blink often and, if your eyes feel dry, use preservative-free artificial tears.
  • Protect your eyes from the sun all year round with UV400 sunglasses, children included.
  • Read in good light at about 35 to 40 cm. Avoid looking at screens in the dark.
  • If you work on a computer, place the monitor at eye level and an arm's length away.
  • Contact lenses: wash your hands, respect the wearing time and never sleep or shower in them.
  • A varied diet, not smoking and keeping blood pressure and sugar under control also protect your eyes.
  • Have a test even if you think you see well: many problems show no symptoms at first.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have an eye test?

As a rule, adults every 1 to 2 years and, over 40, once a year. If you notice changes in your vision, headaches or eye strain, don't wait: book sooner.

At what age should a child see an optometrist?

We recommend a first test at around age 3 and, during school years, once a year. Children rarely say they see badly: parents or teachers notice it.

Who carries out the eye test?

A qualified, registered optometrist. If we detect anything that needs medical attention, we refer you to an ophthalmologist.

Do you measure eye pressure and photograph the back of the eye?

Yes. The eye test includes tonometry, the measurement of intraocular pressure, and retinal photography, a digital image of the back of the eye that lets us assess the retina and optic nerve and track changes from one visit to the next.

Where is Senti2 Óptica in Moraira?

At Calle Marjaleta, 3, 03724 Moraira (Alicante), in the town centre. Get directions.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Which eyewear brands do you stock?

Luxury brands such as Cartier, Chopard, Dior, Gucci, Porsche Design, Dita and Saint Laurent, and independent designers such as Face à Face, Anne et Valentin and Pementa. See them all in the brand carousel.

What is presbyopia?

It is the natural loss of the ability to focus up close that appears from around 40 to 45. It is corrected with reading glasses, varifocal lenses or multifocal contact lenses. Read more in our eye health guide (in Spanish).

Do screens damage your eyesight?

They don't damage it, but they do tire it: in front of a screen we blink less and strain our near focus for hours. Take breaks with the 20-20-20 rule, mind the lighting and keep your prescription up to date; if you work long hours on a computer, occupational lenses can help. More tips in our eye health guide (in Spanish).

How do I book an eye test?

Call us on 966 49 04 40, email us at senti2moraira@gmail.com or drop by the shop.
